Nick is a man of many talents, not only is he a natural bodybuilder and fitness model but he’s also a classical musician!
But, Nick doesn’t see himself as being especially talented but more so hardworking and willing to put in the hours of practice to achieve his goals and become successful.
For Nick bodybuilding is much more than just a physical journey to showcase a shredded body on stage. He loves bodybuilding for its ability to help him grow as a person and chase goals he never thought he could ever achieve.
Nick has a seriously positive attitude and the determination to match, he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Nick recently achieved 3rd place in Men’s Fitness Model Open at the ICN Muscle and Model Show and has big plans to compete again soon, so keep an eye out for him!
Q & A with Nick
It was actually a dear friend of mine who encouraged me to give bodybuilding a try, I would never have had the courage to commit to this journey without them. People who encourage and believe in you are gold! Never underestimate the power of encouragement, a small and unexpected compliment can make someone’s day (in my case it changed my life).
What are your workouts like? How are they structured?
In my current phase, I train strength over a 5-day split followed by a rest or HIIT day. Depending on what I train with my coach each week, my training usually looks something like this:
- Back/biceps/chest – then deadlifts later in the day
- Shoulders/abs – then squats later in the day
- Chest/triceps – then bench press later in the day
- Rack pulls/quads/calves
- Core/cable exercises
A bodybuilder and a classical musician, how do you balance these two passions?
Each one compliments the other, as with bodybuilding a musician must stay in shape. Daily practice is essential not only to progress but to retain muscle memory and good technique.
The piano is often a lonely pursuit, it can take months of repetitions just to master a particular piece of music. The obvious parallel with bodybuilding here is that growth is incremental and requires a multifaceted discipline. I find that my bodybuilding training relieves the mental strain from long hours of piano practice.
How important is nutrition to you and how do you manage it?
Bodybuilding is teeming with what I call ‘the one percenters’, each variable may seem insignificant on its own but together they can produce a body you never thought you could build.
Without solid nutrition, you cannot maximise the growth that we all train so hard for since I began my bodybuilding journey I have continuously developed my nutritional knowledge.
In the beginning, it started with small changes, for example, I made it a rule that I would no longer consume liquid calories.
As I progressed in my training I also made it a goal to develop my nutritional knowledge, I now spend a great deal more time preparing (and eating!) food than I do training.
